I am 45 years old and I am 25 lbs overweight. I believe I have had a mild form of apnea as a teenager that worsened over time with age. I have snored since age 12 and have always felt sluggish in the afternoon. Once I hit age 36-37, I started snoring loudly on a regular basis and thus developed debilitating fatigue, fibromyalgia. With this came the inability to exercise or function, and then the weight gain soon followed. I have a co-worker who is thin as a rail and has severe apnea. Also, my neighbor is very tall and thin and has apnea. The one thing these two have in common is small chin and mouth. So, I do believe it is or can be a combination of factors. I my case, my doctor indicated that weight loss would decrease the severity of my apnea, but since I have recessed chin and small mouth I will probably always have to deal with some sort of treatment.
