Rainout is the water that collects from condensation inside the hose. People cope with it in various ways, usually by placing the humidifier close to the floor so water runs back down into the chamber instead of into your face. Another way is the insulating sleeve.

One wants to maintain a balance between getting optimal humidification and no rainout.
