Posted by Getting Weirder on September 09, 2004 at 00:14:34:Hi, I'm an old timer with battling sleep apnea (1998) but I have something new now (ugh). I appear to sleep well with my Bipap (have asthma) but I am having odd bouts of sleepiness during the day. As long as I am moving around, talking, etc., I'm OK. But let me sit down in a chair or lay down for 5 minutes and I'm "out like a light". I am vaguely aware of what's going on in my surroundings.
If someone doesn't wake me, I can stay like this from 30 minutes to an hour! My last sleep study was about 3 years ago and was OK. I am unemployed right now (no insurance) and can't afford another sleep study.
Has anyone experienced this? Could I possibly be developing narcolepsy too? Or does it sound more like my bipap settings need to be adjusted? However, even at my worst before I got my first machine (cpap), I never just "zonked out" at almost a moment's notice.
If anyone has experienced this or has any ideas, I'd appreciate them.
"If I could get rich by sleeping, wouldn't that be great? Trouble is-I couldn't spend the money because I would be asleep."
All you fellow apneics (sp?) take care and be good to yourselves. It is a wicked condition.
