I started on CPAP 18 months ago after being diagnosed with OSA. It was the first time in many years I felt like I got a good, restful night sleep. I was alert and rested in the morning; however, I was experiencing the exact same symptoms as you during the day, including falling asleep while driving, working, or even having a relaxing chat with a friend. Another sleep study indicated that I have hypersomnolence and, quite possibly, narcolepsy. Unfortunately, when I did the study, I was on medication which may have affected REM if, in fact, I did have narcolepsy. Again, all my symptoms, such as yours, indicated that I could have narcolepsy.
I was put on 200mg of provigil, and I have been a new person since. I am no longer falling asleep during the day and am much more alert. No problem falling asleep at night either. It has really made a dramatic difference in my life.
You may want to have another sleep study, usually done during the day, to test for this.
