Sleepy Time,
RDI was 50. He never mentioned having an enlarged tongue to me and no I do not have a recessed lower jaw. I am like you that it seems contradictory to not operate "because" of no improvement on xpap. I also had no improvement even tho I was 100% compliant. That is WHY my doctor considered my request for UPPP. However his criteria for surgery was quite different from any I have read about. He looked at my sleep lab results and looked to see if my Apnea was very severe or very mild. If so he would not have done surgery. If he felt the Apnea was caused by obesity he would not do surgery. Then from looking at my throat and asking a zillion questions about family health issues he decided it "might" be beneficial. However his "might" is much better than nationwide as he claims a 85% success rate. His nurses backs this up as I had questioned them privately BEFORE talking with him about surgery at all!

I am going tomorrow night for a follow up polysomnograph to see exactly what my RDI is post-surgery. As soon as I hear from it I'll post again.

BTW...I'm turning my bi-pap machine in today as I have no use for it any longer and that $700/month can be saved! YIPPEEEE!!

Good luck, Steve
