Activa vs Breeze masks/pillows

Posted by nhdad on October 27, 2004 at 17:21:28:

I'm going on my third year cpap. Use respironics cpap and I was using respironics gell mask up to a few weeks ago. Thought at first it was fine and the past 6 mos or so (even though Ive gone through 3 of them) feeling the mask style was a problem saw my doctor and then made aware lo and behold there are other masks.

So my problem is, I tried the remstar activa nasal mask (used it for a week or so) and I thought I liked it, then realized after a few days I couldnt control the slight leaks, and was having terrible nights sleep. Also dont like the head straps which are like the first mask i used. Did a bunch of research on this website and others and thought I would ask to see more masks including the breeze with pillows. First my therapist fit me with a smaller size activa which did elliminate the leaks. But i chose the breeze w/pillows because i reaaly liked the idea of having the hose going over head. and different strap system.

Problem is i liked the first couple nights but thought i would get used to the pillows in my nostrils. Not happening. Im using the reccomended silicone gell, but the pillows irritate my nostrils (not a rash but just the rubbing) and even though ive worked to get the just right fit, frequently as the headgear rubs against pillow under my head it shifts the mask so pillows push harder up my nose and i wake a lot.

Anyways, has anyone also used the dreamseal mask? I could try this, but they need to order it and I cant return. Has anyone had simmilar experience. I tried all the masks available and the activa though I had probs with the larger size was the only one that fit.

Am I giving up too early after a week 1/2 with the breeze or is this sufficiant amount of time to try a mask? I'm lucky they let me try them for 2 weeks and my insurance is good.
Does every mask have disadvantages in one way or another?
Advise appreciated.
