Before CPAP I had occasional GERD and also have a small hitial hernia and shotskys ring (sorry about the spelling). The ring is a small constricting band on the esophagus that can cause swallowing difficulties.

For the three years on CPAP the GERD has virtually disappeared. It seems that in many if not most people the GERD lessens or disappears when on CPAP. Some GERD is apparently caused by the desperate and extreme movements of the diaphragm when struggling to breathe. I am inclined to blame my hernia on OSA do to the same struggle, and the ring has stabilized - it may also be OSA related.
