Yes, it's common. I've experienced several episodes of having to walk off the gas pain when the air's gone beyond my stomach.

I've found that consistent use of my BiPAP helps as my body gets the idea that not swallowing air leads to less pain.

I've also found that if I do wake up feeling bloated, if I push myself up with my arms to elevate my top half and let the air out my mouth, I can usually go back to sleep without removing my mask.

It seems to me that sometimes if I've gotten the blamkets arranged right so that there's a little bit of pressure on my stomach area, that less air builds up there. I have to be sleeping on my left side for that to work though.
