Initial Set up With C-Pap

Posted by anniehall on January 04, 2005 at 21:06:36:

I was told by the tech at the sleep lab a couple of weeks ago, when I did the overnight test that he gradually increased the air pressure - guess I was having some minor difficulty, breathing AND wearing the mask at the same time...it was new to me and I was resisting the blowing air a little at first. He said that when I get my own machine, that I can get one that gradually increases the air pressure on its own. Question: Is that called "ramping"? I have heard that term used in this forum and to the uninitiated these terms are a little mysterious. Please clarify. ALSO: does the prescription from the sleep doc for the C-pap have to specify that particular ability? Or do all c-pap machines nowdays do that? Seems like it would be an easier adjustment with that gradual process. Seemed to work for me in the sleep lab, once I relaxed a bit. Comments most welcome.
Thanks, Annie
