I think that following a routine is helpful.

Never lie down in bed alone without the mask on and the machine engaged. If your intent is to sleep, the rule applies whether you're alone or not. Never disengage the machine or remove the mask lying down (sit up or stand up first).

If you're not alone, please make sure that your partner awakens you if you doze off without it.
