life after CPAP

Posted by jugular on January 06, 2005 at 13:42:58:

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie to this board and a 22 year old male who has been recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I've had this problem at least since I was 16 and possibly earlier. I'm actually looking forward to the treatment and wearing the CPAP, I figure the sooner I get used to it the better. I wouldn't be so gung-ho about the idea of sleeping with a mask on, though, if I hadn't been going through life feeling so drained for such a long time. And yet I'm worried that this isn't going to have as dramatic of an effect on my energy level, mood, ability to concentrate, etc. as I expect it to.

I know some of you posters have already shared stories about how the CPAP treatment has helped you mentally, which are pretty heartening. I'd really like to hear more, and more details about how certain aspects of your life changed after using CPAP - for the first week, and after a few months. Thanks a lot and I hope to hear from you.
