Thanks very much for this helpful response--for not assuming that you know more about my (lack of) symptoms than I do, for providing the pertinent information available and for acknowledging that the research-based info has huge holes in it.

I never meant to imply that I was giving up on CPAP (I'm not), just pointing out that it would be psychologically helpful to me to have more concrete reasons to persevere, based on longer term health outcomes, given that the short term result of my efforts with CPAP are that I sleep *less* well. There is probably considerable less compliance problems among people taknig cholesterol medications. People I know who take cholesterol reducing pills do so because (a) there is ample evidence of the connection between high cholesterol and (b) taking a daily pill with no felt side-effects is an easy treatment. Given that CPAP (so far, for me) is far from an easy treatment, I am trying to shore up on information about the risks of not using it, so as to keep motivated in acclimating myself to that odious appliance. Your response is very helpful in that regard.
