Posted by kidmuscles on January 07, 2005 at 12:56:28:I'm 29 years old, and I've had a sleep study done and diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. Usually isn't too much of a problem, but here is the weird thing.
Moments before I fall asleep, I hit that stage of paralysis. When that happens I stop breathing and finally wake myself up with a huge gasp of air as if I had been underwater for a while. For some odd reason, it is as if I can see myself falling into the state of sleep, and I think I'm dying or something instead of falling asleep. Thus, I try to wake myself back up. Last night it was so bad when I woke up out of this state, my legs were shaking really bad as if I were trying to regain feeling to tell myself I wasn't dead, but merely asleep.
This happens virtually every night when I fall asleep, although not always as severe as last night. But the cycle will usually repeat itself two or three times, then I fall asleep and normally am fine after that and don't wake up until the morning.
It's almost as if I'm afraid to go to sleep because I'm afraid of not waking up in the morning. Any suggestions? Anyone else experience this?
