This assumes – and you know what happens when you assume – that every trip that you take has only 110 or only 220-volt accommodations.
Here are some examples of when you might hit both:
• Brazil has 110 – in most places – while Argentina has 220. Many packages offer Brazil and Argentina together. Even if you stay in only Brazil, you may encounter both.
• If you are traveling to Asia from the East Coast of the U.S. or traveling to Europe from the West, your trip will likely involve an overnight stop on the opposite coast.
• Many of the newer hotels in Cuba, especially Havana, have 220-volt electricity. Most of the older hotels or the hotels outside of Havana have 110. Many church and civic groups travel there on humanitarian permits from the U.S. In addition, the embargo will be lifted some day, one way or the other.
