Posted by noah on March 01, 2005 at 21:16:49:Hi there. I've been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea (50 arousals in one night) and was prescribed a CPAP machine. The pressure is set at 7 and I've been using it for 8 days. I haven't slept this poorly in a long time, mostly because I'm waking up with air blowing out my mouth. I tried a "Chin-Up" tape strap last night, and though it helps keep my mouth closed, it doesn't completely seal my lips. I'm looking into buying some 2" Blenderm tape (3M waterproof medical tape) to totally seal my mouth. Has anyone used this tape? Has anyone who started out with mouth leakage been eventually able to keep their mouth shut while sleeping with the CPAP machine?
Since using the CPAP, I've been exhausted and have had to take 1 or 2 naps a day. My doctor said it can take up to 5 months to get used to. I was shocked. Has anyone stuck it out for anywhere near that length of time and been glad they did?
I've essentially put the rest of my life on hold to deal with the sleep apnea as well as major depression, which itself may or may not be related to the apnea, but is certainly not being helped by the poor sleep.
Any insights would be appreciated.
