Hi Noah,
Hing in there! I took quite a while to adjust to CPAP too. On my first sleep study in 1994, when I was diagnosed with severe OSA, they put the mask on me the second part of the night. That lasted about 20 minutes and I was outa there. I went to a surgeon and had a deviated septum and UPPP surgery done in May of 1995. Six months or so later after another study, I was on CPAP. When I started masks were much less comfortable and my machine (a PB Companion 314) sounded like a freight train coming through my bedroom. I got used to it though, to the point I couldn't imagine sleeping without the hose. Regarding your mouth leaks, that will definately have you waking gasping for air and will interfere with your therapy, making it much more difficult to tolerate. I personally don't recommend taping your mouth, although many people do it. At 7, your pressure is low enough for you to possibly use a full face mask without excessive leaking. That might be worth a try. I find the ResMed Ultra Mirage full face mask to be tolerably comfortable for me during allergy season or if I have a heavy cold, but we are all different. Work with your DME to find a face mask that fits your face properly and is comfortable for you. Lastly, one thing I learned in getting used to cpap is that in the beginning, as tempting as it is, DO NOT TAKE THE MASK OFF. If you get up for a head call in the middle of the night, just unhook. I could find a million reasons not to put it back on at 3 in the morning, and when it's hanging on the bedpost instead of on your face it's of no benefit to you whatsoever! Best of luck to you. It really does get better, and you get your health back, so it's worth the effort.
