Love -- absolutely LOVE -- my autopap. I've had two sleep specialists tell me the same thing about the body having trouble adjusting to the varying pressure. I have no idea where they get their information or what their problem is. I took my script for CPAP and went online to purchase my autopap out of pocket.

My pressure needs vary from 11 to a high of nearly 16. 90% of the time it's in the 11-13 range, but there's the occasional night where it climbs up to around 15 and stays there. I have severe allergies and mild asthma.

As with many apneics, I am severely overweight. After starting CPAP, I started walking on the treadmill in the gym but gave it up after two weeks when I was so tired, I could hardly see straight. The idea was to get more energy. I've been on autopap since last April and finally resolved some pain issues sufficiently to be able to use a stationery bike. Hallelujah, my energy is coming up and weight is coming off, unlike my previous attempt at walking while on CPAP. Coincidence? I don't know and don't care.

I think every autopap now has a mode where it can be run at a fixed pressure so if you did get an autopap and your doctor turned out to be right, you can use it in the CPAP mode.

I thought bipaps were mainly for people who have problems exhaling against high pressure. And I think some people have problems getting in sync with the bipap.

Are you using a heated humidifier? That helps many people with congestion problems.
