Background: I have apnea and have used CPAP for 15 months. A local orthodontist, who also suffers from apnea, has used himself as a guinea pig for various treatments. Dr. K has had turbinate surgery (did not help), UPPP (did not help), and ethmoid surgery (which did help). I am not overweight, do not smoke, do not drink, and am female. He fashioned a night guard for me, which moved my lower jaw forward, and that helped somewhat. Dr. K suggested that I have a sinus CT scan. Sure enough, I've got anatomical issues. I've seen two ENTs for opinions. One ENT wants to do a turbinate reduction procedure, while ENT number two suggests I have ethmoid/somnoplasty surgery.
Current: ENT number two did a sinus culture which showed that I have "heavy growth of e coli" in my sinuses and wants me to take antibiotics. Is this serious? How does one get e coli in the sinuses? I've Googled e coli of the sinuses and came up with nothing.
Thanks for the help!
