First, your sleep lab is kind of off the mark. Some people feel better instantly; many do not. Much depends on how much sleep debt you've accumulated. You might want to do a search on sleep debt; also borrow 'The Promise of Sleep' by Dr. Dement from your local library and read it.

Second, many professional people believe in running autopaps wide open with the low setting at 4 and upper limit at 20. This is not the best way to use autopap. If a higher pressure is needed to stop the apnea, it takes too long for the autopap to ramp up from 4 to the necessary limit. Most users posting on here are successful with narrowing the range and monitoring the nightly data. This is done by getting the software that comes with the machine and installing it on your PC. You get a wealth of data this way, including data on mask leaks.

In your case, I would suggest setting the lower limit at 10 or 11 and monitoring the data. If the upper level never goes above 15 or 16, then set the upper limit at that number. However, my guess is that you are dependent upon the sleep lab to do these things for you.

I have an autopap and I believe they are quite trustworthy.

Thirdly, a heated humidifier usually is necessary for most people. Did the sleep lab provide one?

Stick with it; it usually takes some tweaking.
