I just have to say that I'm horrified that someone set you up with a CPAP set at a presumably random pressure after a titration study in which you failed to sleep. You should not have to be trying things out at home to see what works - the lab should have scheduled you for a second attempt at titration so that you could get what you need rather than sending you home with a machine to work out what you need through trial-by-error.

How much better you feel depends on how fragmented your sleep was before the PAP - if you were missing out on a lot of REM and delta, you would have a bunch of delta and REM rebound - where you have excessive amounts to make up for lost time - and then you would feel the difference right away. If your pre-PAP sleep was not that fragmented, then the difference in quality would not be that great, and you would not feel the difference as much. Everyone is different - a few people are able to get some REM and delta in even with severe sleep apnea, while others have trouble reaching these stages with only moderate sleep apnea.
