Sometimes I think there is an initial positive reaction when the body is suddenly getting more quality sleep. Then when edge is taken off the worst of the exhaustion, a sort of rebound sets in when all the hormonal levels, circadian rhythms and sleep debt have to be balanced out. I don't think we ever make progress in a steady upward manner. We take several steps forward, then level off and feel worse for awhile until things get sorted out, then we start to progress again. IMHO. . . . . . from what I've learned over the years . . . .
