The obstructive portion was 60 events per hour. Evaluation through xrays and scope up through the nose and down the throat showed the area of blockage to be a small airway (5mm), thick tongue and length of the tongue from the hyoid through an axis through the mouth. I had a hyoid suspension followed by a genioglossus advancement, both of which helped increase the O2 desaturation caused by apnea. Some time after the advancement, I had the bilateral jaw advancement (MMA) which moved the jaw 9mm. My obstructive events are now 0 (per sleep study at 1 year). Since the last surgery, I have not woke due to choking (over two years). This used to be a nightly occurrence. I still have a few centrals (6 to 15 depending on the sleep study) and am continuing to search for a solution since the xpap (bipap, autopap, cpap) all cause more.
