i just called the TSA: http://www.tsa.gov/public/display?theme=175
and spoke to someone who basically said that there should be no problem carrying on your cpap machine.

But, if the supervisor of airport security at your airport objects to it they are allowed to make you check it. The TSA will defer to the individual airport on this. They also said that this type of problem usually occurs at small airports where screeners and supervisors are not as familiar with cpap machines.

So, for now, my suggestion is to carry with your machine a "letter of medical necessity" from your doctor (I keep mine in the case with the machine). And I always refer to it as a medical device to assist in breathing.

good luck! I am curious as to why this message uses the acronym "TAS" instead of "TSA" for the transportation security administration. Maybe it's just a typo?
