What about Reggie White ? You can have sudden death ...from chronic severe sleep apnea. However, it is from heart arrythmias related to protracted severe apnea...not from suddenly not being able to take a breath. Your body's reflexes will compensate and demand that you breathe. You will keep breathing...but your OSA should be treated. Chronic severe OSA can lead to a variety of heart problems including arrythmias that can produce situations like Mr. White's.
