Dear ncfirefighter:
Absolutely not!
This is not something that can be handled simply through weight loss. As a matter of fact, if you do have obstructive sleep apnea, going on CPAP (the breathing machine) will probably be the only way to have a chance at losing the weight. Once the apnea has resolved and you are sleeping good, efforts at weight loss may then be effective.
For someone who has obstructive sleep apnea to try and lose the weight while battling apnea every night is just a losing game. Its like using a garden hose on a pressureized petroleum pipeline fire. You have to first depressurize the pipeline then use foam to have any chance at success. Do you get what I'm saying?
Schedule a consultation with a sleep physician at Dr. Bey's sleep disorders center or the Baptist Hospital sleep disorders center in Winston-Salem. Both labs have superior expertise. I know them well.
Good luck.
