Upper Back Pain with CPAP

Posted by Wylie on October 07, 2005 at 13:19:18:

I have been using an auto-titrating CPAP for about a month now and have had good results on reduced daytime sleepiness. However, sharp pain in my upper back wakes me up in the morning. This pain also runs under my rib cage and hurts when I breath deeply. It started the morning after using my cpap for the first time and does not happen if I don't use the cpap. Once I get out of bed it goes away within 10 minutes or so.

It does not seem to be related to sleeping posistion as I have tried sleeping on my side and back. My doctor has never heard of such a side effect from CPAP and I haven't found much mention of upper back/chest pain in any of the forums.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks.
