First finding the right mask is not always easy, but it is esential, I use a nasal comfort gel nasal mask from respironics, I find it very comfortable and I can sleep on my side or back, and have not had any leak issues even with having facial hair. When I sleep on my side I will sleep on the edge of the pillow, this allows my nose and mask some extra room. you may also look at alternate head gear. There is a lot of variety out there, finding what you can use and live with is essenital. also since you are just getting started I believe that time will also help you get more use to it. Honestly its gotten to the point that I feel like somethings missing if I try and sleep with out my mask on, and if I wake up in the middle of the night, a barrely notice it, and I had all the problems you discribed and I am glad its a thing of the past.
