I agree with you in principle. OSA is not a "sexy" disease-of-the-year that is embedded with social ramifications. It will never, therefore, get the celebrity status of breast cancer, AIDS, etc...
Because it is a multi- (?)million industry, there are developments, research grants, etc...being poured into it. Mostly, though, they are projects supported by the PAP industry (for good or bad).
There is, by the way, a cure for OSA. They are a bit extreme and few people "want" to do them. There are two operations with success numbers high enough to be considered cures. They are a tracheotomy and the MMA/GA (jaw and tongue advancement)...both, unlike other procedures, have medical research to document their success rates. I know it's not the cure you had in mind...but OSA (not central apnea) is in most people, a disease of structure and anatomy...so there will be no magic pill or chemical cure in our future.
Just some thoughts from the darkside.
