I used a humidifier with my Respironics RemStar Auto, until the humidification unit broke (it burnt out). It was when I first started on Auto-PAP. I had all sorts of problems with nose blocks etc from the cold air. The humidifier fixed all that virtually from the first night. It really did the trick. I stopped using it about six months ago only because the humidifier unit broke and I've found I haven't needed to replace it as yet. The humidifier had it's downsides - water in the tubes was a constant problem, but the upsides far outweighed this.

I recommend you investigate using heated humidification. It's well worth it.
