Sleep disorders like Apnea were only "diagnosed" in the early 80's. There is really very little scientic study or research done on this problem. The "sleep Docs" sure know how to charge (my 6 hr sleep study cost $1800)and then they give you goobledegook answers.
In my opinion titration studies are just a way to charge another huge fee. We who suffer are desperate for help and that is our weakness, we tolerate too much. When the sleep clinic (located on the I5 interstate)told me to return for a titration study I said no way. The inhalation therapist tech said by reading the machine's (cpap) memory for a weeks time he could tell you what pressure was needed. I bugged him until he told me how to reprogram my Respironics Cpap. I now have a Bipap and it's a little easier to exhale but I can't get to sleep as I spend hours consciously inhaling, something "normal" individuals do autonomically. I will keep trying to break this curse I have had for 30yrs. The lack of quality sleep to regenerate muscular/skeletal system is what caused my heart failure a yr ago to add to my myriad of maladies.
