Posted by learningaboutSA on February 20, 2006 at 13:50:31:Hi everyone I am new, this is my first message. I am also very new to sleep apnea, and I have a lot to learn. I'm a mid aged mom - and over the last few years have had symptoms of S.A. and I finally went to the doctor about it - then the sleep clinic.
I was told just the other day that I have 'very severe' sleep apnea. In fact, I go back to the sleep clinic tonight to try the CPAP.
My question for today is 'how severe IS my sleep apnea?
I have tried to research this on the net, to no avail.I was told I had 77 episodes of apnea per hour, and my brain woke up 81 times in one hour to 'tell me to breath'. Also, my oxygen level was at 80 - they said under 95 is bad.
It sounds to me real bad, which is incredible. I know I snored like a banchi - but I had no idea I was this bad. Yes I am somewhat tired thru the day, but I am not exhausted like the doctor says I should be. Am I just used to this?
She says I will feel a lot better when I get my CPAP, but I'm feeling okay now.
Also, I am quite a bit overweight, and started my diet today. I read on the net that sometimes having sleep apnea can actually cause a person to gain weight! so I sure hope the cpap helps.
thanks for answering my question(s).
