I used a dental device for three years, and I have severe apnea. It was something with the word clear in it, and it was designed with a little pin which moved the lower jaw forward a little at a time. This worked well, but I would eventually extend the device as far as it would go, and then I would have another one made. After three times and about three years, I was beginning to be unable to eat until about 6 hrs after I was awake (my teeth were so out of alignment I couldn't chew) and eventually the dentist refused to make me another one, as he said I'd get TMJ and have even worse problems.
So that's when I switched to a cpap.
