I think you've given up way too easily. I suspect many or all of us "freaked" when we first applied the mask to our faces. I remember thinking that I would never be able to do this--certainly not every night for the rest of my life. Two years later, I look forward to putting on the mask and "breathing easy" through the night as my name implies on this forum. Without CPAP, I might be dead by now. It's no worse than sticking your head out of a car window at 20 or 30 mph or turning your face into a strong spring breeze and breathing in and out against the force of the wind. Another thought that has helped me is that this is a relatively minor inconvenience compared to the physical challenges that millions of people face in their daily lives: wheelchairs, artificial limbs, painful medical treatments, chemotherapy. It's more comfortable than scuba diving. Once the relatively low air pressure (wouldn't even inflate a balloon) equalizes against your inner body pressure, it's hardly noticeable. I hope you'll re-think this, even if hypnosis or counseling is required.
