Years ago when I had just received my sleep disorder diagnosis, I was feeling so bad and was so eager to have some help that I would have worn a mask made of wood if it would have helped. So, I'm always surprised to hear of persons who just won't give the machine a good chance when it could do so much good for them.
Half the battle of getting used to the machine, though, is to have a good comfortable fitting mask and a heated humidifier option, if that helps.
Some patients will be perscribed what's called a full face mask if certain conditions are observed. These conditions are chronic and major nasal obstructions or mouth leaks when a nasal only mask is used. I don't know if your dad had one of these conditions. But if he didn't or doesn't, then a nasal only mask should be used.
Get your dad in again to the local equipment provider and ask for one or two different masks that he can take home to try. If he does not have one, also ask the doctor to authorize the use of a heated humidifier with the CPAP. Good luck with your DAD.
