As a practicable matter, the level of the humidifier setting should be only high enough to eliminate the dry scratchy feeling in your nose and throat and no higher. There is no one 'correct' setting since each person is a little different. Running the thing too high then increases the possibliity of condinsation in the hose and mask, which will get into your nose and lungs, and you don't want that.
