Autopap update take 2

Just returned from sleep doc.
I am sure this post will throw a cat amongst the pigeons !
Doc is not in favour of autoCPAP's, reason being:
For autoCPAP to increase the pressure a person must FIRST have an apnea.Although the apneas are reduced they are not totally eliminated.Any apnea can disturb sleep pattern.He wants me to have zero apneas.
As he put it , with an autoCPAP it is like chasing your own tail !!
If I look at my daily events chart I can see this happening:
Pressure: 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13
Minutes @ pressure: 22 10 53 50 76 83 8 28 37 11
AHI: 2 17 7 10 10 2 22 2 5 0

He says that although the current trend is towards autoCPAP's we could , for the reasons mentioned above , see a move back to straight CPAP.
He recommended that I set pressure at 12 and run like that for 3 months to see if there was any improvement in my response to treatment.
During preview I see the numbers above are not aligned.
Plse just read from left to right. eg.pressure 5 , minutes @ pressure = 10 and AHI = 17
