Losing my mind

Posted by murph on March 06, 2006 at 04:06:50:

I've been on CPAP for 5-6 months. Things were going well for a while, but for the last month or so I've been feeling increasingly poor. Now, no matter how long I sleep I'm exhausted, distractable, feel depressed, have no attention span, can't focus on work, want to eat gargage, and have to be very careful not to be irritable. I'm frequently going into rooms or sitting down at the computer and forgetting why I'm there, which hasn't happened since I started CPAP. I started a diet at the new year and have lost about 35 pounds, and am wondering if I need to be retitrated. Since I intend to lose another 30-50 pounds, I'm wondering if I should have an autopap so that I don't need retitration every 5 minutes. I'm a teacher, and I can get through the days because having the kids there helps me focus, but going home and doing paperwork (grading, report cards, etc) is becoming an increasing uphill battle and I'm close to looking into my district's sick leave policy to see if they'd consider sleep apnea to be an acceptable reason. I'm torn about it - I can't function as well as I'd like while at work, and the paperwork part of the job is becoming downright impossible, but it doesn't seem right to take sick leave when I'm capable of getting to work every day.

If you've gotten to this point, thank you for having read the jumbled thoughts above. I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow and wanted to post beforehand to see if anybody could suggest anything to bring up to him, or anything else. Hopefully I'll get back on track somehow, and then hopefully my thoughts will become easier to express clearly. Thanks again.
