I also believe what you are describing is the controlled exhale wash out port that is necessary for the design. There should be visible holes for this. However, mask designs do have detachable parts with mechanical locks or seals. Those can (but shouldn't)leak if they are not attached properely. I would suggest you bring this subject up with your equipment provider in your local area and be sure you get the correct information on what should be leaking and what should not be leaking.
