I've found that a CPAP with humidifier makes a cold easier to bear at night. There are 12 hour nasal sprays (Afrin) but those can be addictive and hard on your nose. Actifed, a cold pill that lasts 6-7 hours, at bedtime combined with the CPAP usually gets me through the night just fine. Also, I've found that the trick of opening your mouth and letting the air blow through does indeed help clear out your nasal passages when you have a cold. I've also found that since I've been on a CPAP my colds are much less severe.
