It think this type of investigation would be difficult. It is like which came first the chicken or the egg. Also, any problem you may have will become much worse without good quality sleep no matter what the cause. Apnea just seems to have a greater effect on already underlying conditions. So I don't think apnea causes too many things in itself with the exception of hypertension and a few other similar problems caused by apnea.
