I have some "off the shelf" advise for the taking off the mask problem. The advice is to make a rul that things are done in a fixed sequence. You turn on the machine, and put on the mask sitting up or standing up, then you lie down. In the morning, do the opposite (I.E. do not remove the mask or turn off the machine until you're sitting up or standing up). For potty trips, also follow the sequence (you may wish not to remove the mask, but still sit up before detaching the mask or powering off the machine).
