Thanks Sleepytimegal.

In looking up migraines this morning I found the are grouped, more or less, as menstrual or non-menstrual migraines. The hormones may be the cause of fluid retention. In rereading your post I remembered that allergies can cause nasal congestion which can initiate or exacerbate OSA. On PubMed, search for "Corey [au] AND apnea". That should do it.

I am not a doctor. But from what I have read and put together, ladies retain fluid during the luteal phase. Guilleminault, by implication, indicates that edema is a factor in OSA. (A 1985 report)

Personal experience: My left ankle was retaining fluids. I reasoned that fluid retention anywhere could be accompanied with fluid retention elsewhere, including the airway. since sodium causes fluid retention I cut back on my sodium. On a visit to my GP I told what I had done and he indicated that I probably was okay. Six months later I visited the GP and reported that I was dragging when I got out of bed. In addition, my blood pressure was up. He asked; "How is your sodium intake?" My response: "Uh oh." A friend has introduced me to a different grocery store and I liked their prepared lasgna. When I got home I looked at the sodium content. It was half the daily requirement. In my opinion, the fluid retention by ladies initiates or exacerbates OSA.
This is part of why I concluded that sleep apnea underlies PMS.

One paper reported that bottle feeding alters the shape the skull in such a manner that the individual is predisposed to sleep apnea. Your report means that I must look further or try to identify confounding factors. The problem is I do not have any idea what piece of information could be confounding or if there are modifiers.

Back to PubMed and I will try to solve some of the medical problems just hinted at in various places.

I still am not a doctor. I am reporting on my findings and reasoning. I am not making recommendations.

Thanks a bunch

CA Alamo Joe
