I had no problem at all. The screeners knew what the CPAP was, and had a cloth they ran over it to check it...they said they do them all the time. The problem came when I wasn't able to carry on 3 items. The letter I received from Continental said it DOES NOT COUNT toward your baggage limit and can be brought on the plane with you - along with 2 other carry ons. The stewardess wasn't 'buying it' and made us check one of our other bags. I was livid..she wouldn't even read the letter from Continental SAYING I could bring it on. I wrote a letter, and never heard back *shrug*
