What is my APAP thinking?

Posted by eyedoc on March 30, 2006 at 06:26:00:

I am a newbie. I've had a ResMed S8 Vantage APAP with a Mirage Swift and Activa. It was originally set with a range of 8-16. I was fighting to exhale going to sleep. It was reset to 4-16 without any settiling time. It starts at 4 and rapidly climbs to mid 12's making it hard to exhale and go to sleep. It is usually at about 6-9 when I awaken in the morning, but often in the 10's when I awaken in the middle of the night.

Some peculiar questions. Does the duty cycle affect the machines ability to sense what I need? Could a long duty cycle affect the machine.

Some side facts. I have a form of asthma. I usually don't wheeze, but cough instead. If my peak flow is below 600, I'm uncomfortable (52 yo WM at 180 pounds 5' 7-8" tall.) For over 20 years, I've trained as a singer for an avocation
