As a singer, you should have very strong diaphragmatic (spelling?) muscles by now. The technique I used to become more comfortable with exhaling (my initial pressure was 12, later raised to 16) was to inhale deeply, then relax into the exhale and let gravity and the natural action of the diaphragm take over. Within just a couple of days, I no longer was aware of any pressure at all and was breathing very comfortably; in fact, I was more comfortable than I had been in years.
I also have mild asthma and severe allergies and bought my own autopap three years ago which I would not trade for anything. Do you have the software so you can monitor your data? My downloaded data shows the autopap providing different pressures at different times, sometimes higher, sometimes lower, and I sleep much better. On straight pressure, I was waking up every couple of hours. Now I sleep 5-6, sometimes 7, hours at a stretch.
Good luck to you.
