New and frustrated

Posted by missdroopythang on March 31, 2006 at 17:44:52:

I am new at this site. I was having severe chest pains and after a catherization was asked by my heart doctor if I had ever had a sleep study done. My answer NO. This was late Dec 2005. Feb 4,2006 I had my first sleep study done. After 3 weeks I went to my family doctor to get results. Here is what happened. Dr looked at my results....muttered "severe"..paused muttered "narcolepsy" paused..I said what does that mean. His answer." do you want me to help you with this so you won't die in your sleep" well of course. thank you.Goodbye and God Bless. Prescribe Provigil, which after 3 days sent me to emergency with a reaction to the drug. March 4th, second sleep study done...results..I stopped breathing 40 times an hour ..with mask 0..so Im thinking this is good. The mask will help me. I am worried about my mental condition. I have trouble focusing on numbers. And I find myself in places I don't know how I got there. My hand writing goes from well done to scribbling in just a few sentences. I am unable to remember how to spell my name. Patricia.I get the letters transposed or nothing.March 29th,2006 I get a CPAP. The company sent 2 gentlemen to my home to explain how to use. On the kitchen table they said this goes here and this goes here and here is the mask..sign this..goodbye. Well the first night was a nightmare. I only had the mask on for 2 hours when it started leaking around my nose. The second night was worse. I believe mine is set on 18cm and 5 on the humidifier.what am I doing wrong? I have read my instruction booklet. And I called the company with the answer that if I needed to change to full mask it would cost $150+ because my insurance won't pay for a mask but every 6 months.I wondered why during the sleep study they had to change to a full mask and yet my doctor didn't prescribe one. I am so ready to just give up.This is my last call for help. Im sorry but I need help.
