Before the jaw advancement surgery eliminated my 60 per hour obstructive events, I tried auto machines. They didn't work any better than conventional cpap or bipap. I have a very random breathing pattern (sometimes long and slow other times sort and rapid). This kept the machine confused. Quite often, the machine would be increasing the pressure as I was trying to exhale or it would be decreasing as I was trying to inhale. The pressure change at the wrong moment kept waking me up. Happily, the surgery dropped the obstructive component to essentially zero.
