I may have jumped the gun on this one, but I won't know until my doc/dme (one and the same...) submits the claim. When I called my insurance company, they said since I'm going to a preferred provider, there is a contracted amount, above which my dme cannot charge me. However, I signed a form where the small print says "I understand these items will be billed to my insurance carrier at the rate described above. It is my responsibility to pay any deductible, co-insurance, or any balance not paid for by my insurance..." So that doesn't sound too good, but according to the insurance person I just talked to, he can't do that. So we'll see.

I still have a big problem with the doctor and the dme being the same person. From the answers to this post, it seems no one else has this; people are referred to a dme by their sleep doctor.
