There is hope!

I'm a new CPAP user, I have very severe sleep apnea.
I have had my CPAP for almost 1 month, and I feel I am doing very well adjusting to the CPAP. I feel a lot better!
However, when I received my second report from the sleep clinic - the titration when they used a CPAP, I was really disapointed to see that my apnea's and especially my hypopneas were still really high! Even with an air pressure of 15-16.
I thought 'I'm done for... is this the best it will get?'

Well I just had an appointment today with the sleep doctor. She says that I am a 'walking advertisement' for CPAP! She says it is absolutely incredible how much I have improved!

AND she upped the pressure by one, and says that should take care of the remaining apnea's and hypopneas I am having, and if it doesn't, they will just up the pressure one more! (however I'm up to 17-18 now) high... but if it works great!

Another tidbit - I was telling her that sometimes I wake up, and the mask is off. I don't remember taking the mask off... it is just off. and she says that when you go into REM sleep, you need more oxygen. If you are not getting enough, sometimes you will take the MASK OFF in your sleep!!! It is a sign that you need a higher pressure.

I didn't know that.. you learn something new every day.

I'm just glad and relieved that I am doing (and feeling) so much better AND apparently, I'm not at the 'top of my game' yet - and things will only get better!

She also says that my Cortison level is MUCH too high (lack of oxygen while sleeping causes this) - and after 1 month on the proper pressure, my cortison should even out.
(Cortison makes you gain weight!) Boy I sure hope THIS is true. I would love to get rid of a ton of cortison if this is the case!
