Hi. I just happen to be at the sleep doctor just today and I asked about the exact same thing. I am waking up, and the mask is laying across my chest. For the life of me, I don't remember taking it off.

The doctor says that when you go into REM sleep, you need a little extra oxygen. If your mask is not providing enough - you will take the mask off while you are sleeping!

It is a sign that you need your pressure raised - which she did, just by one point. We'll see if it helps. she says if I continue to take the mask off (while sleeping) she will up the pressure one more point. (also, in my study they could see that it needed put up another point to get rid of the few remaining apneas and hypopneas) so this also supports her theory.
